Community Wind Project

The La Mitis community wind farm is a project based upon the 3rd request for proposal (RFP) of Hydro-Québec Distribution for the purchase of a wind energy block of maximum 250 MW derived from community projects.

This is a co-ownership formed by EDF EN Canada and Énergie renouvelable de La Mitis, a company held in its own right by the MRC de La Mitis and its municipalities.

The MRC enjoys a decision-making and equity interest in the construction and operation of the wind farm and virtually obtains the opportunity of promoting the wind power potential on its territory and developing an expertise in this domain.

►   Local economic benefits:

  • Part of the profits generated by the wind farm operation will go to the MRC;
  • Generation of a socio-economic development fund;
  • Job creation and indirect benefits for the regional sources of goods and services.
