Lac Alfred is located in the municipalities of Saint-Cléophas, Sainte-Irène, Saint-Zénon-du-Lac-Humqui and the unorganized territory (UT) Lac Alfred in the MRC de La Matapédia and in the municipality of La Redemption and UT Lac-à-la-Croix in the MRC de La Mitis .
With 300 MW, Lac Alfred will be among the largest in the country in terms of installed capacity. Construction on the first 150 MW began in June 2011 and is expected to be completed in December 2012.
In order to encourage the participation of area businesses, the CLD de La Matapédia and La Mitis have produced a directory of suppliers of goods and services. This directory lists companies interested in doing business with EDF EN Canada during production of the Lac Alfred wind project. Knowing the resources in the region, EDF EN Canada wants to involve several companies during the phases of preparation and construction, particularly in the fields of construction, transport, forestry services, retail, professional services, catering and housing, health and entertainment.
Expected Economic Benefits
- Annual rent of over $ 1 million to the Quebec government
- Average annual utility tax payment of $ 900,000 on average per year
- Creating 250 jobs and investing approximately $ 50 million for manufacturing wind turbine components in Gaspésie and the MRC de Matane
