Located in the municipalities of Saint-Cléophas, Sainte-Irène, Saint-Zénon-du-Lac-Humqui and the unorganized territory (UT) of Lac-Alfred in the MRC of La Matapédia and in the municipality of La Rédemption and UT Lac-à-la-Croix in the MRC of La Mitis, the project comprises 150 wind turbines supplied by Senvion. Construction of Lac-Alfred commenced in June 2011 and reached commercial operation in two phases: Phase 1 (150 MW) in January, 2013; and Phase 2 (150 MW) in August, 2013. Electricity generated is delivered to Hydro-Quebec Distribution under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement

Lac-Alfred was presented with the Canadian Wind Energy Association’s (CanWEA) Wind Energy Project Award in October 2013.

The Liaison Committee was established to facilitate the contribution of the community in the development of the Saint-Robert-Bellarmin Wind Farm while taking into consideration the interests of land users and encouraging the participation of local businesses. The committee is composed of community representatives as the municipalities, MRCs, private landowners, environmental protection agencies, land user groups and CLDs. The objectives of the committee are to:

  • Continue effective communication between all stakeholders and the developer;
  • Understand issues related to the operation of the wind farm;
  • Recommend satisfactory solutions to stakeholders;
  • Identify potential opportunities for local business and service.
