The Rivière-du-Moulin Wind Farm is located in the unorganized territory (UT) Lac Pikauba in the MRC de Charlevoix and the UT of Lac Ministuk in the MRC du Fjord du Saguenay. The project area is located entirely on public lands.
The 350 MW wind farm is the largest in Canada. Investments related to the wind project are estimated at $800 million. Approximately 565 jobs were created in the region during the peak of construction phase. During the operations phase, about 20 permanent jobs were created to ensure the operation and maintenance of the project.
The Liaison Committee was established to facilitate the contribution of the community in the development of the Rivière-du-Moulin Wind Farm while taking into consideration the interests of land users and encouraging the participation of local businesses. The committee is composed of community representatives as the municipalities, MRCs, private landowners, environmental protection agencies, land user groups and CLDs. The objectives of the committee are to:
- Continue effective communication between all stakeholders and the developer;
- Understand issues related to the operation of the wind farm;
- Recommend satisfactory solutions to stakeholders;
- Identify potential opportunities for local business and service.
